MSR 7525 Review: MSR Lightning Ascent Snow Shoes. I first tried these snowshoes at one of REI's Demo Days events at Echo Lake in Colorado and they were almost perfect - what a HUGE difference compared to the base EVO model we tried out. With the exception of the binding knobs being somewhat difficult to secure the loose strap of the binding (I was told this gets easier over time as it gets broken in), the shoes were great for moving on groomed, flat trails and hilly, snow-covered inclines with the leveling step.
